Artist's Description
A wild bobcat in the snow, Southern New Brunswick.
When I first moved to New Brunswick from Toronto, it was one of my dreams to see a lynx or bobcat in the wild. I always assumed that for it to happen, I would have to really work for it - be hiking someplace remote at dawn in a snowstorm, for example.
The reality couldn’t have been further from that! I was literally sitting on the couch, our first winter here. My partner suddenly yelled “there’s a bobcat right behind you!” - it was right outside the window in our front yard!
I grabbed my camera and ran outside, certain he’d already be gone, but he stopped for a brief moment, just long enough for me to get this shot, and then he ran off into the dense underbrush.
Still I was not completely unscathed, it was a bitterly cold January day, and even though we were only outside for a few minutes, I was not wearing gloves and my fingers got painfully cold 🥶😉
